Jo Freedman

Jo Freedman currently serves as the Chief Officer for Public Health (Health Protection) at Bedford Borough Council since August 2024. Previously, Jo held the position of Consultant in Public Health at Central Bedfordshire Council from July 2023 to August 2024, and served as a Public Health Registrar at the East of England Deanery from August 2018 to June 2023. Jo's extensive experience includes working as an Epidemiologist (travel health) at Public Health England from November 2001 to June 2018, focusing on the surveillance of travel-associated infectious diseases and managing international communications related to health regulations. Earlier in Jo's career, a role as a Microbiologist at Alcontrol Laboratories from January 1995 to January 2000 provided foundational experience in the field. Jo holds a Master of Philosophy in Public Health from the University of Cambridge and a Master of Public Health from the University of Leeds.
