Jorge Silva is a PhD student at The University of Queensland, focusing on the photonics group within the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science since January 2022. In addition, Jorge serves as a teaching assistant for courses in Photonics and Fundamentals of Electromagnetic Waves and Fields. Previously, Jorge worked as a tutor in Mathematics and Physics at Ginásios da Educação Da Vinci and gained experience as a graduate engineering trainee at Bosch, specializing in optical sensing systems for autonomous driving. Jorge also held research fellow positions at Universidade do Minho, where research involved the simulation of graphene-based sensors and the investigation of optical properties of metal/semiconductor multilayer structures. Furthermore, Jorge contributed as a visiting researcher at Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie, focusing on waveguide structures for graphene-based sensors. Educational qualifications include a Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering from The University of Queensland, a Master's degree in Engineering Physics/Applied Physics from Universidade do Minho, and a Bachelor's degree in Physics from the same institution.
