Thomas Schenkel is a physicist and senior scientist at Berkeley Lab, where experience spans from 2000 to the present, focusing on accelerator technology and applied physics with research and development themes including qubits, beams, and fusion. In addition to serving as program head for fusion and ion beams at the Accelerator Technology and Applied Physics Division, Thomas has held the position of interim director within the same division. Currently, Thomas is a program manager at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in the Defense Science Office, a role assumed in May 2024. Prior experience includes a postdoctoral position at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory from 1997 to 2000. Thomas earned a PhD in physics from Goethe University in Frankfurt.
