Berks County Intermediate Unit
Sara George serves as the assistant director of the Office of Early Childhood and Student Services. Sara started her career in education in 2007 as an alternative education teacher and moved into her role of Special Education Coordinator in the Alternative Education setting. In 2015, Sara began working at the BCIU in the Office of Early Childhood and Student Services as a School Age Special Education and Alternative Education Assistant Program Administrator. In 2016, Sara was appointed as the Program Administrator of School Age Alternative Education Services. She served in this role until her appointment to assistant director in November 2017.
Sara earned her dual bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Special Education from Bloomsburg University and her Master’s degree in Special Education from St. Joseph’s University. She also completed her Special Education Supervisory certification at Penn State University, and is currently enrolled in the Educational Specialist doctoral level program at Liberty University.

The Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) provides programs and services to public school districts, nonpublic schools, and other human service organizations of Berks County, Pennsylvania. The BCIU also is a liaison agent between the schools and the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
