Chris Smith

Chris Smith has extensive experience in structural engineering, currently serving as a Principal Engineer at Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance since August 2016. Previous roles at the company include Senior Engineer and Engineer. Prior to this, Chris held the position of Research Structural Engineer as a NRC Postdoctoral Scholar at the National Institute of Standards and Technology from February 2014 to August 2016. Earlier experience includes working as Associate II at Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc., and as a Graduate Research Assistant at Stanford University from 2009 to December 2013. Chris earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Structural Engineering from Stanford University from 2008 to 2013, following a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the same institution (2006-2008).
