Lena Merkel

Research Fellow | Doctoral Candidate at Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine

Lena Merkel is a dedicated researcher currently serving as a Research Fellow and Doctoral Candidate at both the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine and the German Institute for Global and Area Studies since January 2022. Previously, Lena held academic positions as a Student Assistant at the Centre for Modern Indian Studies and the Institut für Weltwirtschaft, and also worked as a Tutor in Economics at Georg-August-Universität Göttingen. Additional experience includes an internship at Handelsblatt and various student assistant roles at Georg-August-Universität Göttingen. Lena holds multiple degrees, including a Master of Science in Development Economics and a Master of Arts in the History of Global Markets from The University of Göttingen, along with a Master's in International Studies from Ewha Womans University, a Bachelor's in Economics and Economic History from The University of Göttingen, and an MBA from Savitribai Phule Pune University.
