Stephen is the former chief executive officer of the Investec Group. Dual listed on the London Stock Exchange and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. Stephen was with Investec for 39 years in various capacities and CEO from 1996 to 2018. In 2017, Stephen was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Commerce Degree by the University of the Witwatersrand. He is a former non-executive director the South African Banking Association, a former board member of Business Leadership South Africa, former non-executive director and chairman of the South African Banking Association, a former director of the JSE Limited, a former member of the Financial Markets Advisory Board, and former chairman of the Independent Bankers Association. Stephen is a non-executive director of Investec Ltd, Investec Plc, the Investec Australia Property Fund and chairman of Bid Corporation Limited, Bud Group (Pty) Ltd, IEP Group (Pty) Ltd and co-chair of Youth Employment Service (YES).
