Jim Cheng is a seasoned software engineer and machine learning expert with extensive experience in the development of AI and search technologies. Currently serving as a Founding Software Engineer at Big Sur AI, Jim has led initiatives in hybrid RAG-based AI sales agents and search quality enhancements. Prior roles include Principal Machine Learning Engineer at ServiceTitan, where Jim developed an intelligent LLM-based customer service chatbot, and Engineer Manager of Artificial Intelligence at SmartNews. Additionally, Jim held various leadership positions at Suning R&D Center USA, Walmart, Microsoft, Yahoo!, Oracle, and Merced Systems, contributing to advancements in search algorithms, data analytics, and ETL solutions. Jim holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering and Computer Science from Stanford University.
