Valerie Young

Chief of Staff at Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences

Valerie Young is currently the Chief of Staff at Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences. Valerie has also previously worked with the Peace Corps, Town of Boothbay Harbor, Maine, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Office of Congressman Tom Allen, and University of Rhode Island.

Valerie Young began their career working as a Congressional Intern with the Office of Congressman Tom Allen from September 2003 to December 2003. Valerie then became an Office Assistant and Rental Coordinator at the Tootell Aquatic Center at the University of Rhode Island from January 2003 to May 2005. In November 2005, they joined the Peace Corps and served as a Community Education Volunteer until December 2007. Upon returning from the Peace Corps, they took a position as the Rental Coordinator and Marketing Programs Manager at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens from February 2008 to September 2012. In May 2011, they also began working as a Selectman & Overseer of the Poor for the Town of Boothbay Harbor, Maine and continued in this role until May 2013. Valerie Young has been with their current employer, Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences, since May 2013 and currently serves as their Chief of Staff.

Valerie Young's educational career began with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Rhode Island. Valerie continued their studies in Coastal Management at the same school.
