Marja van Zeijl, Ph.D.

Marja van Zeijl, Ph.D. has a diverse range of work experience. Marja is currently serving as the Program Management Leader at the Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute, where they focus on advancing new tuberculosis drug regimens through clinical development. Prior to this, Marja worked as a Senior Program Officer for HIV and TB Drugs at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Marja also has extensive experience at Pfizer, where they held roles such as Senior Director of Vaccine Development Management and Director of Program Management/Associate Director of Program Management. Their responsibilities at Pfizer included leading vaccine program teams, facilitating meetings, identifying and solving issues, and managing project timelines. Earlier in their career, Marja worked at Hurley Consulting Associates Ltd. as a Pharmacologist, providing consulting services to pharmaceutical companies. Marja also spent several years at Wyeth as the Group Leader of Viral Biochemistry and Assay Development, where they led a team of scientists and managed the Discovery Research segment of the Wyeth-ViroPharma HCV Polymerase Alliance.

Marja van Zeijl, Ph.D. completed their education with a strong focus on Biology. From 1979 to 1986, they attended Utrecht University where they obtained both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Biology. Following this, from 1986 to 1991, they pursued their Ph.D. in Molecular Cell Biology and Virology at Harvard University.
