R. Scott Miller has a diverse work experience spanning several roles and organizations. R. Scott currently serves as the Clinical Development Team Leader at the Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute since 2022. Prior to this, they worked at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation from 2015 to 2022 as the Deputy Director of the Malaria Program, overseeing R&D investments in global malaria elimination. Before joining the foundation, Miller held positions at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, where they served as the Director of the Infectious Diseases Clinical Research Program from 2014 to 2015. Additionally, they worked as the Program Manager at the US Army Medical Materiel Development Activity from 2009 to 2013. Miller also has experience as a research physician in the US Government from 1999 to 2012. R. Scott completed their Infectious Diseases Fellowship at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center from 1996 to 1999, and their Internal Medicine Residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center from 1989 to 1992.
R. Scott Miller has a strong educational background in the field of medicine. R. Scott obtained their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, where they studied from 1985 to 1989. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Biology, General from Dartmouth College, from 1980 to 1984.
In addition to their formal education, R. Scott Miller has also pursued additional certifications. In 1998, they obtained a Certificate in Travel Medicine and Tropical Health from the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. Furthermore, in October 2019, they obtained a certification in Infectious Diseases from the American Board of Internal Medicine.
