Stephen Delgado has extensive experience in the field of epidemiology and healthcare research. Stephen began their career as an Intern at the Arizona Department of Health Services, where they conducted spatial and temporal surveillance of coccidioidomycosis case reporting. Stephen then went on to work as a Biomedical Research Abroad Vistas Open (BRAVO) Fellow at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, where they conducted statistical and spatial analyses of epidemiological and entomological surveillance data related to vector-borne transmission of Trypanosoma cruzi.
Stephen joined the University of Pennsylvania as a Visiting Scholar, where they continued their work on epidemiological and entomological surveillance data, particularly focusing on infestation by Triatoma infestans and vector-borne transmission of Trypanosoma cruzi. During this time, they co-authored peer-reviewed publications and delivered oral presentations on their research.
Stephen then moved on to roles at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Global AIDS Program, Central America Region Office, and the University of Arizona, Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, where they provided technical assistance, conducted data analysis, and delivered reports on various healthcare research projects.
Stephen also worked at ICF and ICAP at Columbia University, where they provided technical assistance and leadership for population-based surveys on HIV and related health issues in African countries and Haiti.
In their most recent roles, Stephen served as a Principal Epidemiologist at Phylagen, where they provided epidemiological analyses and expertise for indoor environmental surveillance of pathogens, including SARS-CoV-2. Stephen also worked as a Senior Geographer at Chenega Corporation, a Clinical Operations Geospatial Research Lead at the Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute.
Stephen Delgado received their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biochemistry from the University of Missouri-Columbia from 1982 to 1988. Stephen then pursued a Master of Science (MS) degree in Life Sciences Communication from the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 2003 to 2004. Later, from 2005 to 2009, they obtained a Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Science and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Geography and Epidemiology, both from the University of Arizona.
