Rachel Walker has been working as a Senior Software Engineer since 2012. Rachel started their career at ThoughtWorks, where they worked for two years before moving to Hackbright Academy, where they were a senior instructor for a year and a half. In November 2015, they joined Informed K12 as a software engineer.

At Informed K12, Rachel has been working on rearchitecting views to reduce complexity and increase testability by leveraging the presenter pattern. Rachel has also optimized data-intensive controller actions by creating a module to update records in bulk, and reduced load on background workers by incrementing counters directly in the database. In addition, Rachel introduced React to the front-end to encourage the use of reusable components and consistent conventions. Rachel also introduced deployments to the CircleCI test pipeline to eliminate the need for local environment setup.

In addition to their work on technical projects, Rachel has also established an internship program which resulted in a full-time new-grad hire. Rachel has also managed a team to integrate Google SSO on time and to spec, and spearheaded an effort to increase productivity of the Customer Success team by improving the internal tool suite.

Rachel has leveraged their skills in Ruby, Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, Javascript, React, Typescript, RSpec, Jest, CircleCI, and Heroku while at Informed K12.

Rachel Walker has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a High School Diploma in High School diploma from the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy.
