Derrick Yong

Co-chief Engineer at Biobot Surgical

Derrick Yong currently serves as the Head of Scientific Affairs at Biobot Surgical following a secondment from A*STAR that began in December 2023. As a Senior Scientist at A*STAR since April 2023, Derrick also holds the position of Adjunct Assistant Professor at the National University of Singapore and Co-Principal Investigator at the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research & Technology Centre. Derrick's previous roles include General Manager, R&D Lead, and Senior Research Lead in Optics at Endofotonics (November 2021 - November 2023), where progress was made in optics design and instrumentation for fluorescence imaging and optical spectroscopy. Derrick's accomplishments include securing multiple industry partnerships, leading significant research projects, and facilitating the education of numerous students. Derrick earned a PhD and a Bachelor of Engineering in Bioengineering from Nanyang Technological University Singapore.
