Ulf Sommer has extensive work experience in the field of biochemistry and mass spectrometry. Ulf began their career as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Weill Cornell Medical College, where they focused on enzyme purification and assay development. Ulf then worked as a Research Associate at Washington University School of Medicine, specializing in protein biochemistry and glycobiology. Ulf later joined Boston University School of Medicine as a Research Associate, where they utilized mass spectrometry techniques in collaborative projects. Ulf then became a Research Scientist at ACE Biosciences A/S, where they worked on protein identification and purification. Ulf's next position was at the University of Birmingham, where they served as an Experimental Officer and facility manager for the NBAF-Birmingham Metabolomics Facility. Currently, Ulf is a Senior Scientist R&D at Biocrates Life Sciences AG.
Ulf Sommer obtained their (Abitur) degree in History, Chemistry, and various other subjects from Meldorfer Gelehrtenschule in the years 1976-1985. Following that, they pursued a degree in Chemistry at Kiel University, earning their Dipl.-Chem. degree from 1986-1994. Continuing their academic journey, they then attended Kiel University once again, where they obtained their Dr. rer. nat. in (Bio)chemistry between 1994-1998. Additionally, in October 2016, Ulf Sommer obtained an advanced level of French fluency certification from Duolingo.
