Shari Garrett, PhD

Shari Garrett, PhD has a diverse work experience spanning various positions and industries. Shari is currently working as a Field Application Scientist at Biolog, Inc. since 2022. Prior to this, they were a PhD candidate and Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Illinois at Chicago from 2017 to 2022. Shari'sresearch focused on intestinal Axin1 regulation in mouse models of colitis, Salmonella infection, and obesity. Shari also established and maintained novel mouse strains with cell-specific deletions of Axin1.

Shari also has experience as a Biotechnology Analyst at Aspire Capital Partners, LLC in 2021, where they conducted due diligence on biotech/pharma/life science companies and prepared reports and presentations for investment recommendations. Shari was involved in evaluating scientific, clinical, and medical literature, as well as financial position and management teams.

In their previous roles, Shari worked as a Product Application Scientist at Omni International from 2014 to 2017, where they developed and presented novel homogenization application methods to various markets and trained sales teams and lab personnel. Shari also represented the company at national conferences. Shari started their career as a Laboratory Technician III at Food Safety Net Services from 2011 to 2014, where they performed quantitative and microbiological testing of food products.

During their undergraduate years, Shari gained research experience as an Undergraduate Student Researcher at the University of Georgia in 2011 and as a Student Researcher at North Carolina State University - Forestry Biotechnology Group in 2010. Shari also worked as a Student Lab Worker at Avigenics Inc in 2007 and Athens Technical College in 2007. Additionally, they interned as a Student Intern at the University of Georgia in 2006.

Shari Garrett, PhD has a strong educational background in the field of microbiology and immunology. Shari earned their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from the University of Illinois Chicago, specializing in Microbiology and Immunology. Prior to their PhD, they obtained a Master of Science degree in Quality Assurance from Southern Polytechnic State University in the years 2013-2015. Shari's academic journey began at The University of Georgia, where they completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Biotechnology and Food Science from 2009 to 2011. Shari first pursued their interest in biotechnology at Athens Technical College, where they earned an Associate of Science (AS) degree in Biotechnology from 2007 to 2009.
