Kamal Kumar Upadhyay

Kamal Kumar Upadhyay, Ph.D has extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry, particularly in the field of injectable formulation development. Kamal Kumar has held key leadership roles in various companies, including Biological E. Limited, Biocon, Intas Pharmaceuticals, Piramal Pharma Solutions, and Dr. Reddy's Laboratories.

At Biological E. Limited, Kamal currently serves as the Vice President of Pharma R&D, leading the injectable pharma R&D department and managing a diverse product portfolio.

Prior to their current role, Kamal worked at Biocon as the General Manager/Head of Injectable Formulation Development. During this time, they led the formulation R&D for device-based peptide injections and played a significant role in building a strong development pipeline.

Before joining Biocon, Kamal served as the General Manager of Injectable R&D at Intas Pharmaceuticals, where they led a team focused on complex parenteral and injectable innovation. Kamal Kumar was responsible for maintaining a portfolio of development projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, and meeting regulatory and cGMP standards.

Kamal's earlier experience includes working as the Sr. Group Leader and Head of Injectable Formulation Development at Piramal Pharma Solutions, where they led the pre-formulation group and was involved in the development of various injectable formulations for the global market.

Kamal Kumar also worked as a Senior Scientist and Manager at Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, where they focused on complex injectable (liposome) product formulation in the formulation department. During their tenure, they established a world-class R&D lab and developed liposome characterization techniques.

Kamal's earlier roles include working as a Senior Research Scientist at Fresenius Kabi, a National Doctorate Fellow at The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, a Research Scholar at INMAS, Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), and a Ph.D studentship at LCPO, ENSCPB, University of Bordeaux, PESSAC, FRANCE.

Kamal Kumar Upadhyay obtained a Ph.D in Pharmaceutics from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in collaboration with the University of Bordeaux from 2006 to 2010. Prior to their Ph.D, they completed a Master's in Pharmacy in Pharmaceutics at Doctor Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya from 2002 to 2004. Kamal Kumar also holds a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from RKDF Bhopal, which they earned from 1997 to 2001.
