Anna Spehar has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of biosensors and biotechnology. From 2016 onwards, they have been working at Biomensio Ltd as the Head of Products, where they are involved in the development of handheld devices for rapid and reliable multianalyte detection. Prior to this, Anna worked at Universitat Rovira i Virgili as a Senior Researcher and Project Manager from 2013 to 2015, contributing to the development of multiplex genosensors and immunosensors for the rapid detection of biological pathogens.
Before joining Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Anna worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Queen Mary University of London from 2010 to 2013. During this time, they were a part of the ESPRIT project where they developed implantable and wearable biosensors for continuous monitoring of biochemical changes in the body during physical activity. Anna also won an award for the best paper at a conference on wearable and implantable sensors and participated in an educational project to make chemistry videos for inspiring young people to study chemistry.
Prior to their postdoctoral position in London, Anna worked as a Researcher at ESPRIT - Elite Sports Performance Research in Training, where they focused on the development of implantable electrochemical sensors for continuous monitoring of oxygen, glucose, and lactate in interstitial tissue. Anna also developed wearable sensors for sports applications.
Anna's previous work experiences include being a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Biomedical Diagnostic Institute in Dublin from 2007 to 2009, a Researcher at the Institute of Microtechnology in EPFL from 2002 to 2006, and a Teaching Assistant at Helsinki University of Technology from 2000 to 2002.
Anna Spehar earned a PhD in Analytical Chemistry from Teknillinen korkeakoulu-Tekniska högskolan, completing their studies between 2001 and 2006. Anna later obtained a Certificate in Quantitative Finance from 7City - CQF, studying between 2010 and 2011. Additionally, Anna holds an MSc in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Helsinki, although the exact dates of their studies in this program are not specified.
