Ian Dobson

Ian Dobson, PhD, is an experienced chemical and fuel industry executive. Ian also advises BP’s Alternative Energy business for which he evaluates technology and intellectual property for BP’s venture investments in alternative energy and is a board member of Butamax, LCC, an iso-butanol focused joint venture between DuPont and BP. As Vice President for Technology in BP biofuels he led the development of new enzyme and yeast biology for ethanol production and delivered the process design basis for BP’s cellulosic ethanol. He was the technology board member for BP in a joint-development collaboration on biodiesel with DSM. Ian has a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Leeds, UK, and an MBA from Humberside Business School. He is a visiting Professor of Bioenergy for the University of Nottingham.
