Dr. Ulrich Abel

Dr. Ulrich Abel has over 20 years of work experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Dr. Ulrich is currently serving as the Team Lead Project Management Pharmaceutical Development at Bionorica SE since 2023. Prior to that, they worked as the Director, Head of Preclinical Project Management at Fresenius Kabi from 2020 to 2023. Dr. Ulrich also held the position of Head of Preclinical Research at Engelhard Arzneimittel from 2017 to 2020.

Dr. Abel's earlier experience includes working as the Principal Scientific Expert Pharmaceutical Chemistry at Merz Pharmaceuticals from 2013 to 2017, where they were in charge of various preclinical projects in API development. Before that, they served as the Director, Head of Chemical R&D at Merz Pharmaceuticals from 2009 to 2013, leading the Chemistry Department and overseeing drug discovery and development projects. Dr. Ulrich has also worked as the Director Medicinal Chemistry at Phenex Pharmaceuticals AG from 2006 to 2009, and as a Group Leader Medicinal Chemistry at Santhera Pharmaceuticals Ltd / Graffinity from 2003 to 2005.

Dr. Abel started their career as a Senior Scientist in Natural Product Chemistry at BioLeads from 2000 to 2003, where they focused on the development of semisynthetic natural product-derived compound libraries. Prior to that, they completed postdoctoral research at the University of California, Berkeley and Université catholique de Louvain.

Overall, Dr. Ulrich Abel has extensive experience in project management, preclinical research, pharmaceutical chemistry, and medicinal chemistry.

Dr. Ulrich Abel received their Diplom Chemiker degree from the University of Konstanz in 1994. Dr. Ulrich then pursued further education and earned their Dr.rer.nat. degree in Chemistry from Technische Universität Braunschweig in 1997.
