Joy Xie

Joy (Yushu) Xie serves as an Associate Director and has held various scientific roles at BioNTech SE since April 2021, including Senior Scientist II and Senior Scientist. Prior to this, Joy worked as a Scientist at bluebird bio, focusing on oncology research and translational studies involving cellular therapies and CAR T cell mechanisms. As a PhD candidate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from 2014 to 2019, Joy innovated in engineered chimeric antigen receptor T cells and developed methodologies for CAR T cell imaging. Additional experiences include internships at prestigious institutions such as Genentech and Stanford University, contributing to advancements in antibody engineering and cancer research. Joy holds a PhD in Biological/Biosystems Engineering from MIT and a BS in Chemical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology.
