Swagata Kar, Ph.D., has a diverse work experience in the field of biomedical research. Swagata started their career as a RA/Senior Research Fellow at the National Institute of Virology, where they worked on various projects related to genomic characterization of Hepatitis A and Hepatitis E virus. Swagata also worked in the Microarray and Gene Expression facility, contributing to projects involving gene expression profiling and influenza virus diagnostics.
Dr. Kar then joined The National Institutes of Health as a Biologist, where they focused on studying clinical serum antibody responses against Plasmodium antigens and working with recombinant proteins of Plasmodium falciparum.
Swagata later joined USUHS as a Ph.D. graduate student, conducting research on innate and humoral immune responses to bacterial and soluble antigens. Swagata'sprojects involved various techniques such as ELISA, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, and immune cell functional assays. Swagata also gained experience in mice handling and breeding.
After completing their Ph.D., Dr. Kar worked as a Visiting Research Fellow at the National Cancer Institute for a short period.
Currently, they hold a position at BIOQUAL, Inc., where they have taken on roles such as Staff Scientist, Scientist/Principal Investigator, and Research Director in the Small Animal Division. Swagata'sresponsibilities have included managing preclinical models and services, leading research projects, and overseeing the small animal division.
Throughout their career, Dr. Kar has developed expertise in a range of techniques, including protein expression, purification, and crystallization, ELISA, molecular biology techniques such as PCR and sequencing, and microarray analysis. Swagata'sresearch interests primarily focus on infectious diseases and immune responses.
Swagata Kar, Ph.D. completed their education in a progressive manner. Swagata started their academic journey by earning a Master of Science (M.Sc) degree in Zoology from Savitribai Phule Pune University, which they completed between 2005 and 2007. Following this, they pursued their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Microbiology and Immunology at Drexel University, where they studied from 2010 to 2011. Swagata then continued their Ph.D. pursuit in Immunology at Uniformed Services University from 2011 until 2016.
Additionally, Swagata Kar holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Bioinformatics, although specific information regarding the institution, month, and year of completion is not available.
