Katherine Leng, PhD, is a highly accomplished individual with a diverse range of work experience. Katherine currently works as a Medical Science Liaison at Biotheranostics, Inc., A Hologic Company, where they began in October 2021. Prior to that, they were an NGS Scientist at Takara Bio USA, Inc. from May 2021 to October 2021.

Katherine's most recent academic experience includes working as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Michigan Medical School from September 2019 to January 2021. During this time, they led an R01-funded research project focused on identifying and targeting epigenetic drivers of drug resistance in advanced prostate cancer. Katherine'swork involved utilizing various next-generation sequencing techniques, including RNA-, DNA-, ATAC-, and ChIP-seq, to investigate epigenetic alterations and stemness in drug-resistant adenocarcinoma and neuroendocrine prostate cancer patient tumors and disease models. Katherine also conducted in vitro and in vivo experiments to study epigenetic drivers and developed strategies to block disease progression in patients.

Before their postdoctoral fellowship, Katherine was a Doctoral Student at the University of Michigan from September 2013 to August 2019. As a graduate student in the Chemistry Department, they led multiple research projects on investigating the substrate specificity of histone deacetylases. Katherine'swork involved utilizing enzymatic, mass spectrometry, and cell-based assays, as well as computational modeling, to study the substrate specificity and post-translational regulation of HDAC6 and HDAC8. Throughout their doctoral studies, they published three research manuscripts and was awarded the NIH-supported Cellular Biotechnology Training Program Fellowship.

In addition to their academic roles, Katherine also gained industry experience while working at Genentech as a University of Michigan Campus Ambassador from September 2015 to September 2016.
