Rachel White

Director Of Learning And Engagement at Birmingham Museum of Art

Rachel White has a diverse background in the arts and museum education. Rachel most recently served as the Director of Learning and Engagement at the Birmingham Museum of Art, starting in July 2021. Prior to that, they were the Curator of Education at the same museum from May 2017 to July 2021. Rachel previously worked as the Assistant Curator of Education at the Hunter Museum of American Art from June 2013 to May 2017. Rachel also held positions as a Research Assistant & Education Coordinator at the Krannert Art Museum and Kinkead Pavilion from May 2011 to May 2013, and as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from August 2010 to May 2011. Rachel's experience also includes being Gallery Manager at Ignis Glass Gallery & Studio from January 2009 to June 2010, Curatorial Assistant at the Hunter Museum of American Art from September 2008 to January 2009, and Curatorial Intern at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden from September 2007 to May 2008. Rachel has also worked as a Lead Camp Educator at the Hunter Museum of American Art in June and July 2007, and as a Graduate Intern for Programs and Lectures at The Phillips Collection from September to December 2006. Rachel began their career as a Gallery Educator at the Hunter Museum of American Art from July 2005 to August 2006.

Rachel White received a Master of Arts degree in Art History from The George Washington University, which they attended from 2006 to 2008. Following that, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Art History at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign from 2010 to 2019.
