Val Yianni, PhD

Senior Scientist, Computational Biology at bit.bio

Val Yianni, PhD has extensive experience in the field of computational biology and stem cell research. From November 2017 to March 2021, Val worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate and Computational Biologist at King's College London. During this time, Val was involved in projects focused on endocrine stem cell regulation and the molecular dynamics of stem cells in the oral cavity. Val utilized novel single cell sequencing technologies and employed computational biology tools such as R, Bash, and Python to analyze and interpret datasets. Val's work contributed to the understanding of stem cell biology and its regulation.

In September 2020, Val also worked as an Editor at Frontiers, specifically in the areas of Single Cell RNA-seq, Stem Cell Biology, and Regenerative Biology. As an Editor, Val commissioned, handled, and edited the 'Advances in Dental Research driven by single cell transcriptomics' section. Val identified leading researchers in this field, organized peer-review processes, and edited manuscripts. This role allowed Val to contribute to the dissemination of research in the emerging field of single cell transcriptomics in dental research.

Most recently, starting in October 2022, Val is working as a Scientist II in Computational Biology at bit.bio.

Val Yianni, PhD, has an extensive education history in molecular genetics and stem cell biology. They began their academic journey in 2001 at The Grammar School, Nicosia, where they obtained their Apolytirion degree. Val then pursued a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Molecular Genetics from King's College London, graduating in 2013. They continued their education at King's College London, specializing in Molecular Genetics & Stem Cell Biology and earning a Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in 2017.

In addition to their academic achievements, Val has also obtained various certifications to enhance their skillset. These certifications include "GitHub Concepts" and "Introduction to Git" from DataCamp in May 2023, "R Essential Training: Wrangling and Visualizing Data" and "Python Essential Training" from LinkedIn in September and August 2022 respectively, "Python for Non-Programmers," "Learning GitHub," "AI Accountability Essential Training," "Inclusive Leadership," "New Manager Foundations," "Performance Management: Setting Goals and Managing Performance," and "Prioritizing Effectively as a Leader," all obtained from LinkedIn in January to August 2022. They have also completed "Data Wrangling in R" and "Code Clinic: R" from LinkedIn in September and August 2021 respectively, "How to Make Strategic Thinking a Habit" from LinkedIn in July 2021, and "Data Visualization in R with ggplot2" from LinkedIn in April 2021. Val further expanded their knowledge with "Practical Project Management" from Educating Experts in April 2021 and "Managing New Managers" from LinkedIn in March 2021.

Val's expertise is recognized by their Chartered Scientist (CSci) designation acquired from science co in January 2021. In addition, they obtained a Personal Licence (PIL) for Animals in Science Procedures (Modules 1-4) from the UK Home Office in October 2014. Val's commitment to continuous learning is evident with their recent certification in "Reporting with R Markdown," obtained from DataCamp in March 2023.
