Maricarmen Smith-Martinez

Director, International Development Sector at Bixal

Maricarmen has more than 15 years of experience managing nonprofit and government projects and overseeing complex, multi-year programs. At Bixal, she leads the international business development portfolio, applying her diverse background in learning, training, and international development with experience in Agile methodologies to design and deliver communications and technology solutions for government initiatives. Prior to Bixal, Maricarmen worked in the nonprofit sector, initially supporting homebuyers and their families on the journey to homeownership at Atlanta Habitat for Humanity and later providing instruction as a certified financial education specialist at CredAbility (now Money Management International).

Maricarmen earned a BA at Emory University, and she is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and Advanced Certified Scrum Master (A-CSM). She served as a Rural Community Development volunteer in the Peace Corps in Costa Rica and is currently the Chair of the Board of Directors of the National Peace Corps Association.
