P. Anthony Akkari is an experienced professional with a diverse work history in the field of pharmacogenetics and biotechnology. P. Anthony is currently serving as the Chief Scientific Officer at Black Swan Pharmaceuticals (BSP) since January 2019. Prior to this role, they were the Head of Motor Neuron Disease Genetics and Therapeutics at the Perron Institute for Neurological and Translational Science, starting in February 2017.

Akkari has held various academic positions as well. P. Anthony served as a Professor of Industrial Pharmacogenetics as well as an Adjunct Professor at Murdoch University. P. Anthony was also a Senior Research Fellow at WANRI from 2015 to 2016. In industry, Akkari has worked as the Chief Scientific Advisor at Shiraz Pharmaceuticals and as a Senior Director of Pharmacogenetics at Cabernet Pharmaceuticals. Before that, they were on secondment as a Therapy Area Advisor for Diabetes Tailored Therapeutics: Pharmacogenetics at Eli Lilly and Company. P. Anthony also served as the Director of Science at Molecular Research Technologies, a custom research company they co-established. P. Anthony Akkari began their education in 1987 at Curtin University, where they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the field of Human/Medical Genetics. P. Anthony completed their doctoral studies in 1995. Following this, Akkari went on to attend Duke University from 1995 to 1997, where they engaged in Post Doctoral research in the area of Neurogenetics.
