Jalen Small is an accomplished librarian and community leader currently serving as a Librarian I - Branch Manager for the City of Roanoke, VA, where a commitment to education and innovative program development is evident. Prior experience includes roles as an Education Coordinator at The Blacks In Technology Foundation, Founder of I'm Trying Clothing Company, LLC, and CEO/Founder of Building Bridges Over Barriers, focusing on fostering inclusivity and overcoming societal challenges. Jalen has also contributed significantly to youth development through positions at Roanoke City Public Schools, YMCA of Virginia's Blue Ridge, Intercept Youth Services, and Family Preservation Services. Jalen holds a Bachelor of Social Work degree from North Carolina Central University.

The Blacks In Technology Foundation is the 501(c)(3) non-profit for Blacks In Technology (BIT), the largest community of Black people in the technology industry. Our goal and mission is to “stomp the divide” between Black tech workers and to fundamentally influence and effect change on an industry that has historically not sought parity with respect to Black workers. Our intent is to level the playing field through training, education, networking, and mentorship with the support of allies, partners, sponsors, and most importantly our global members.
