Sunil Gupta

Sunil Gupta has a strong background in data science and analytics, with over 30 years of experience in various industries. Currently, they hold the position of Director, Advanced Analytics - Data Science Center of Excellence at Blue Cross NC, where they lead a team of senior data scientists. In this role, they focus on utilizing AI and machine learning techniques to transform data into actionable insights across multiple areas of healthcare and operations. During their tenure, Sunil has implemented a comprehensive training and team development program, resulting in increased employee engagement and productivity. Sunil has also spearheaded several thought leadership initiatives, including Program Evaluations, Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, and Longitudinal modeling of chronic diseases.

Prior to Blue Cross NC, Sunil worked at IEEE as the Director of Researcher-centric Data and Analytics Products. In this role, they identified new product opportunities and established partnerships with startups to create offerings for the scientific and engineering information markets. Sunil played a key role in the development of IEEE's analytics strategy and identified potential investment opportunities.

Before their time at IEEE, Sunil served as the Director of Research/VP Engineering at Novus Partners Inc., where they focused on research and engineering projects. Sunil also worked as a Project Lead at Bloomberg L.P. and co-founded EggShell Games, an online virtual world platform aimed at improving children's reading skills.

Sunil has a strong technical background, having founded SpeechSols, LLC and led an advanced technology group at Bell Laboratories, Lucent Technologies. In these roles, they provided technology and product consulting services and led teams focused on speech and image processing, VoIP, hardware and software design and development. Sunil also set up an R&D group in Bell Labs, Shanghai to develop expertise in Mandarin speech recognition.

Sunil Gupta completed their Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani in 1984. Following that, they pursued a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from The University of Alabama between 1984 and 1986. In 1986, Sunil enrolled in Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and earned a PhD in Computer and Systems Engineering in 1989. After a gap of several years, they decided to pursue further education and enrolled in NYU Stern School of Business. Sunil successfully obtained an MBA (with Distinction) in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and Finance from NYU Stern School of Business between 2004 and 2007.
