Erik Lord

Erik Lord, PhD, is a highly experienced professional in materials science and engineering, currently serving as Senior Director of Materials & Processes at Blue Origin since October 2017, where leadership encompasses a team of over 100 engineers and technicians in the management of materials and manufacturing processes. Prior roles include Director and Senior Manager of Materials and Processes Laboratories at Blue Origin and Lead Engineer at GE Global Research focusing on welding and cladding research. Erik's earlier experience includes materials engineering at Bechtel Marine Propulsion Corporation, research assistance at Colorado School of Mines specializing in laser welding of nuclear materials, and military service as an Electronics Technician in the U.S. Navy. Erik holds a Ph.D. and an M.S. in Materials Science from Colorado School of Mines, and degrees in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering from the University of New Orleans and the United States Naval Academy.
