James Pierlot has a diverse work experience spanning several industries and roles. James began their career as a Program Manager at Revenue Canada in 1990 and worked in that position for a decade before joining Bell Canada as a Legal Counsel. After two years at Bell Canada, James transitioned to Magna International as a Research Consultant. Following this, they worked as a Lawyer at Watson Wyatt from 2003 to 2005, and then at Towers Watson from 2005 to 2010. In 2011, James established their own firm called Pierlot Pension Law, where they served as the Principal. In 2012, they became a Member of the Legal Advisory Committee at the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, and later became the Chair of the committee from 2017 to 2019. In 2008, James also joined the C.D. Howe Institute as a Member of the Pension Policy Council. In 2015, they became the Chief Executive Officer of Blue PierTM. James further expanded their involvement in the finance industry by taking on various roles at the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA), including being a Member of the Technical Advisory Committee for Missing Members in the Pension Sector from 2019 to 2020, and being a Member of multiple advisory committees related to pensions starting from 2020 onwards.

James Pierlot's education history is as follows:

From 1985 to 1989, James Pierlot attended Western University, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in History.

In 1996, they enrolled at York University - Osgoode Hall Law School and pursued a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree in Law, which they completed in 1999.

During the same period, from 1997 to 1998, they studied at Université d'Aix-Marseille III and earned a Diploma in international and European law (Diplôme en Droit international et européen).

In 1999, James Pierlot joined Université de Montréal and attained a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree in Civil Law by the end of 2000.

Returning to York University - Osgoode Hall Law School, they pursued further specialization in Tax Law and obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from 2003 to 2005.
