Denis De Ceuster is an External Advisor at BlueDot Photonics. Denis was previously the Director of Silicon PV at First Solar from May 2013 to October 2016, where they led the R&D and manufacturing teams that designed, installed, and ramped the TetraSun technology to 100MW/year in Kulim (Malaysia). The TetraSun technology delivered 22.8% cells in R&D, as well as 21.9% median cell efficiencies in high-volume on the production line. Other areas of responsibilities included reliability, product qualification, certification, new product introduction and management of critical suppliers and contract manufacturers.
Before First Solar, Denis was the CEO, President and Chairman of the Board at TetraSun, Inc. from April 2009 to April 2013. Denis co-founded TetraSun, a start-up that developed unique and patented architecture and manufacturing processes for high efficiency n-type crystalline silicon solar cells. Denis raised several rounds of funding, totaling $12M from angels, Japanese, and German strategic investors. Denis was also the recipient of a $2.4M grant from a DOE/NREL grant. Denis demonstrated proof-of-concept, manufacturability, cost, and reliability of the TetraSun technology in less than 4 years and with less than $10M spent. Denis sold the company to First Solar in 2013.
Denis De Ceuster attended the Université catholique de Louvain, where they studied electrical engineering with a focus on microelectronics.
