Laura Gibson

Research Assistant I at BlueNalu

Laura received her M.S. in Marine Biology from Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego. Her thesis work was based around utilizing large-scale 3D imagery derived using Structure from Motion photogrammetric techniques to quantify species of complex branching coral. She created several intricate workflows to measure growth of the coral species which was then used to map the evolution of coral reef restoration over the last several decades.

Prior to her M.S., Laura received her B.S. in Aquatic Biology from University of California Santa Barbara. During her time here, she worked in several coral, fish, and invertebrate labs on campus, as well as with the Santa Barbara Sea Center and as an intern to Jean-Michel Cousteau at his nonprofit, Ocean Futures Society.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her precious corgi Checkers, scuba diving, rock climbing, going to concerts, and reading. Laura has always been passionate about sustainable seafood and is so excited to be part of a cleaner and meaningful future here at BlueNalu!
