Karen Westsmith

Karen Westsmith has extensive experience in educational leadership and curriculum development spanning over two decades. Currently serving as Assistant Principal: Curriculum and Quality at Bolton College since January 2018, Karen has held various senior roles, including Director of Curriculum and Quality and Director of Adult and Higher Education Curriculum. Previously, at Wigan & Leigh College and University Centre from May 2011 to January 2018, Karen held positions such as Head of 19+ Curriculum and Performance, focusing on strategic development and excellence in the student experience, and Director of Maths, English and Foundation Learning, emphasizing quality improvement across core subjects. Earlier roles included quality and teaching management positions at Wigan & Leigh College and practical experience as a Basic Skills Teacher at Alliance Learning. Karen's career began with a focus on embedding English and maths in vocational contexts at Bolton College as a trainee teacher.
