Alex Houlston

Alex Houlston has a diverse work experience spanning various industries. In 2005, Alex worked as a Project Manager at Hackney Homes, where they managed operations on a major urban renewal scheme and initiated innovative pilot schemes. In 2008, they joined the Department of Health & Human Services as a Senior Project Manager, focusing on major developments and environmental sustainability. From 2011 to 2012, Alex worked as an Associate at re-generate, where they developed relationships with international firms for clean technologies. In 2012, Alex co-founded Energy for the People and served as the Director until 2021. During this time, they also co-founded The People's Solar, a crowd-funding platform for solar projects, and successfully secured funding and donations for various projects. In 2014, Alex co-founded BOOM! and assumed the role of CEO & Co-Founder. Since 2019, Alex has been working as a Mentor at EnergyLab.

Alex Houlston has a diverse education history. In 1997, they began their undergraduate studies at the University of Roehampton, where they pursued a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree. After completing their undergraduate studies in 2001, they went on to earn a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Management from ACCA in 2006.

In 2007, Alex obtained a Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute, and they continued to enhance their project management skills by pursuing a PMP degree from the Project Management Institute between 2007 and 2015.

To broaden their knowledge and skills in social entrepreneurship, Alex became an Associate Fellow at the School for Social Entrepreneurs in 2015. Additionally, they obtained a Fellowship from the Centre for Sustainability Leadership in 2009.

In 2012, Alex acquired the Toastmasters Competent Communicator certification from Toastmasters International, further demonstrating their commitment to effective communication.

More recently, in 2020 and 2021, Alex pursued a PG Cert. in Energy & Carbon Studies at Murdoch University, showcasing their interest in environmental sustainability.

Overall, Alex has pursued various educational opportunities and certifications to develop their expertise in project management, financial management, social entrepreneurship, and energy & carbon studies.
