Derek Allan has a diverse work experience spanning over several industries. Derek began their career as a professional football player for Southampton Football Club, Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club, Kingstonian FC, and Queen of the South Football Club. After their football career, they transitioned into recruitment and talent acquisition roles. Derek worked as the Head of Recruitment and Talent Acquisition at Booth Welsh and later became the Head of Recruitment - UK and International at Booth Welsh (Part of the Clough Group). Derek also held the position of Associate Director at Search Consultancy, leading their Technical and Engineering division. Derek served as an Elite Professional Youth Coach (U18s) for GREENOCK MORTON FOOTBALL CLUB LIMITED, where they focused on talent identification and coaching young players. Currently, Derek is the Strong Quality Growth Director at Scottish Women's Football, contributing to the growth and development of the women's and girls' game in Scotland.

Derek Allan attended Irvine Royal Academy from 1986 to 1990, where they studied Standard Grades and Sport and Fitness Administration/Management. Derek also obtained several certifications, including Level 1 Opposition Analysis, Level 1 Technical Scouting, Talent ID Level 1 from the Professional Football Scouts Association (PFSA), The Business of Football from The Open University, and the Elite Uefa Advanced Youth Licence from the Scottish Football Association in 2015.
