Derick Brown has been a board of governors member at Boys and Girls Clubs of San Francisco since August 2020. Prior to that, they worked as a senior community engagement advisor for the City & County of San Francisco - Police Department from September 2018 to August 2020. In this role, they were responsible for ensuring that the SFPD met its commitment to working in partnership with the communities and neighborhoods of San Francisco and for improving the quality of life and public safety for all City residents. This involved developing strategies to encourage new or increased contributions for SFPD’s community events, supporting planning, scheduling/organizing meetings, and serving as a liaison between SFPD and the Mayor’s Office. Derick also supported citywide engagement with community and neighborhood organizations and associations, as well as ad hoc community and neighborhood stakeholders.
Derick’s primary responsibilities included supporting, designing, implementing and managing SFPD community relations strategy; being responsible for fundraising efforts for community events; supporting marketing and promotion of community initiatives, internally and externally; leveraging existing community relationships and cultivating new contacts; establishing partnerships between external agencies and private sector entities; evaluating opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships and advertising on an on-going basis; building relationships with community thought leaders to grow public safety awareness; keeping a pulse on the community; serving on various Community Boards that promote SFPD’s mission; and enhancing meaningful relationships with targeted, high-level external audiences.

Derick Brown holds a Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy Analysis and American Studies from the University of California, Berkeley, and an Associate of Arts in Counseling Psychology from City College of San Francisco.
