Marcel Akhame

Associate, U.S. Policy and Advocacy at Breakthrough Energy

Marcel Akhame is an Associate with Breakthrough Energy’s (BE) U.S. Policy and Advocacy team. His responsibilities include a mix of programmatic work, strategy implementation and evaluation, project management, and partner relations, with a particular but not exclusive focus on U.S. states and regions.

Prior to joining BE, Marcel was a Congressional Fellow with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation. As a Congressional Fellow, he worked with the office of Congressman A. Donald McEachin and the U.S. House Committee on Natural Resources where he supported numerous environmental justice, energy, and climate legislative and advocacy actions through research, writing, outreach and engagement. Marcel has also worked as a Program Analyst at the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of Water (OW). While at the EPA, he served as the point of contact for a $120 million grant program and supported OW in defining the benefits and methodology of the Pilot Programs within the initial rollout of the Justice40 initiative.

Marcel holds a Master of Public Policy degree from American University, and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of North Texas.
