Jingyi Chen

Head Of Battery And Project at Breathe Battery Technologies

Jingyi Chen's work experience begins with their current role at Breathe Battery Technologies as the Algorithm Product Lead since June 2022. Prior to this, they held the position of Senior Battery Engineer at the same company from August 2021 to June 2022.

Before joining Breathe Battery Technologies, Jingyi worked at Imperial College London as a Research Associate from January 2019 to August 2021. During their time there, they focused on battery degradation diagnostics and prognostics in Battery Management Systems for EV/HEV applications. They were involved in a project called BAFTA, which was funded by Innovate UK and included industrial partners Aston Martin and Dukosi.

Jingyi's experience at Imperial College London also includes their role as a PhD Student from November 2015 to March 2019. Their thesis focused on the performance and stability of nano-structured solid oxide fuel cell cermet electrodes. They gained research expertise in nano-composite synthesis, electrochemical measurement, 3-D imaging and analysis, and TLM/Equivalent circuit models.

In 2015, Jingyi worked as a Visiting Researcher for lithium-sulfur battery at KAUST for a brief period of four months. They conducted research in the 2D materials group, investigating ways to mitigate lithium-sulfur battery degradation. Their work involved literature review and reporting, slurry making and casting, coin cell electrochemical characterization, and working in a glove-box environment.

Before their time at KAUST, Jingyi had a summer placement at Imperial College London in 2014. They worked with Dr. Enrique Ruiz-Trejo on the fabrication of metal-oxide composite materials for fuel cells and membranes.

In 2013, Jingyi gained research experience as a natural rubber research intern at Hainan University. They assisted Dr. Li Chaoqun in conducting various tests on rubber products and analyzing property changes after adding graphite/carbon nanotube to the latex.

Jingyi's early work experience includes a role as an external oral English trainer at Xinyang Education Group in 2012. They provided one-to-one English training and gave presentations and consultations on Singapore education and the application process.

Finally, Jingyi worked as a freelance tuition teacher during the same period in 2012. They provided math tuition to primary and secondary school students in both one-to-one and small group settings.

Jingyi Chen completed a PhD in Materials Research at Imperial College London from 2015 to 2019, specializing in Solid Oxide Fuel Cell. Prior to that, from 2012 to 2015, Jingyi completed a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Materials Sciences and Engineering at Imperial College London. Before starting college, Jingyi attended Anglo-Chinese Junior College from 2011 to 2012 and obtained a GCE A Level with a focus on Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Economics.

In terms of additional certifications, Jingyi became a Professional Member of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (MIMMM) through the IOM3 (Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining) in August 2021. Additionally, Jingyi obtained an Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy from the Higher Education Academy in December 2019.
