Martin Petts has a diverse work experience in the construction industry. From 2018 onwards, they worked as a Contract Manager for Briggs & Forrester Group, specifically for Briggs & Forrester Living in the Yorkshire & North East region. Martin was responsible for successfully delivering projects and managing client relationships. Prior to that, from 2008 to 2018, Martin worked as a Contract Manager for Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick where they oversaw various design and build projects. Martin also took on the role of Bid Manager for large tender submissions. Martin began their career in 1998 with N G Bailey & Co as a Student Engineer and rose to the position of Project Manager. Martin led projects in sectors such as residential, education, retail, healthcare, and industrial. Additionally, they were the Regional Chair for the NGB Continuous Improvement Team during their time at N G Bailey.

Martin Petts attended Northumbria University from 1995 to 1997, where they obtained a HND in Building Studies with a focus on Building Construction Technology. Martin then continued their education at the same university from 1997 to 2000 and completed a BSc in Building Project Management (Services), specializing in Building Construction Technology. In addition to their degrees, Martin Petts has also earned certification in Contracts Management from SKILLcard in March 2020, and completed the Site Management Safety Training Scheme offered by CITB in December 2019.
