Who You Are Brightwheel is seeking an exceptional leader to manage our People Partner (HRBP) team. In this role, you will work closely with our VP of People Operations to set the strategy and cadence for our key people processes and programs (think: review cycles, career pathways, engagement surveys) while working directly with your team and leaders across the business to respond to employee needs. The right candidate can transition seamlessly from designing big-picture structures and strategies to 1:1 coaching and employee relations. You believe that candor is kindness; you demonstrate empathy for all team members while showing a deep understanding of business needs and company goals. You are excited to collaboratively identify opportunities to enable high performance and help brightwheel fulfill its mission to transform early childhood education.

What You'll Do

  • Lead a team of People Partners: You’ll lead a team of People partners who work across the business to support our departments and leaders. You’ll be responsible for setting strategy, prioritizing goals based on the biggest impact, and leading your team to consistently achieve results.
  • Build, scale, and improve employee-facing processes that help teams and our business thrive: You’ll own critical projects focused on performance management, annual reviews and performance calibrations, employee engagement, career-pathing and development, leveling, and workforce planning. In addition, you’ll partner across company leadership to ensure we are building a high-performance culture and work with your team to implement and execute across the company.
  • Coach and develop leaders: Proactively partner with your HRBP team and leaders across the business to set clear goals, motivate teams, identify and reward our strongest performers, hold teams accountable, and operate with inclusivity. Design programs and interventions that uplevel managers across the business.
  • Be a voice for our employees: Support your team to guide the business through various complex employee relations situations; ensure that all voices and perspectives are heard. You’ll proactively track and strengthen employee engagement through surveys, interviews, and other checkpoints and embed our company-wide diversity, equity, and inclusion priorities to ensure strong commitment across all brightwheel teams.

Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a high performing and highly accountable team people partners team in a fast-growth environment; experience in the tech industry a plus
  • Experience structuring scalable processes and tools to help a People Team operate effectively, including robust performance management systems, company-wide ladder leveling, career pathing, and other high-impact programs
  • Top-notch critical thinking and root cause problem-solving abilities; the ability to diagnose a cultural or management enablement issue and drive a strategy to make improvements
  • Ability to proactively build relationships, offer expert insight, and drive impact; you are confident and comfortable working with senior leaders and demonstrate the ability to challenge or dissent while maintaining a strong and productive relationship
  • Ability to navigate challenging employee situations and conversations with impeccable judgment; strong experience and pattern recognition in handling a wide range of HR questions, compliance issues, and interpersonal situations
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills; able to write or edit critical documents from performance plans to annual reviews to employee policies and communications
  • Passion for furthering brightwheel’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in our policies, practices, and culture

Brightwheel offers a competitive compensation package (base salary, equity and benefits) with a strong emphasis on equity-based compensation (ownership in brightwheel). For cash compensation, brightwheel sets standard ranges for all roles based on function, level, and geographic location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. In alignment with Colorado's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the annual cash compensation for this role in Colorado is targeted at $156,000 - $194,000. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including geographic location as well as candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
