Marcelo Bernal

Marcelo Bernal has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Starting in 1998, they worked as a Credit Analyst at Citibank before moving on to become a Salesperson at HSBC Bank Brasil S.A. in 1999. Marcelo then joined HSBC Bank Plc as a Graduate Associate in 2002. Marcelo continued their career at HSBC, this time in Brazil, where they served as Vice President, Debt Capital Markets from 2004 to 2011. During this role, Marcelo played a key role in building the Debt Capital Markets practice, executing more than 60 transactions totaling $60B. Following this, Marcelo joined Goldman Sachs as a Senior Vice President, where they advised leading Latin American corporations on capital structure and corporate finance matters until 2015. In 2015, Marcelo established their own startup called Federal Invest Factoring, providing alternative financing to underbanked emerging companies, before selling the company later that year. Marcelo then worked at Merchant e-Solutions as Co-President & CEO, overseeing global payments and leading the company's relocation. Marcelo also served as CFO & EVP of Corporate Development, managing settlement and funding, treasury, and revenue management, as well as acting as a liaison between the company and its parent company in Brazil. In 2017, Marcelo co-founded Carnegie Brasil, where they served as CEO, focusing on bringing innovative learning technologies to non-native English speakers in Brazil. Currently, Marcelo is working as a Finance Advisor at Calloquy, PBC, a virtual litigation platform with a social mission to improve access to justice. Alongside their professional roles, Marcelo has demonstrated strong leadership skills, along with a focus on delivering ambitious results and reinventing practices.
