Ruth Allen is a distinguished leader in the field of social work, currently serving as President of the International Federation of Social Workers since April 2024, where representation extends to all social workers in the Europe region. As Chief Executive Officer of the British Association of Social Workers since April 2016, Ruth Allen advocates for the interests and development of social work across the UK. Ruth's extensive experience includes chairing the Social Care Strategic Network Mental Health from 2010 to March 2023 and holding academic positions such as Honorary Research Fellow at St George’s, University of London from 2014 to April 2016. Previous roles encompass Director of Social Work at South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust and Chair of the Faculty of Mental Health, College of Social Work, England, where key partnerships and professional standards in mental health were established. Ruth Allen holds a Master of Social Work and a Professional Doctorate from the University of Sussex, along with a Bachelor of Arts in Geography from the University of Oxford.
