Nicholas Lumb joined the British Cycling board after being elected at National Council in 2018. He has been the chairman of the south west region since 2009 and has represented the region as a national councillor since 2004.
He started racing in BMX before moving to road racing with varied success. Later, he moved to off-road racing and became one of the dominant mountain bike racers in the south west region throughout the 1990s, competing in several world cup races as well as the national cross country series.
He is a national road commissaire and has officiated at many high-profile events, including Tour Series criteriums, national junior series road races and one-day senior events. At regional level, he is also a cyclo-cross commissaire, having been part of the south west cyclo-cross league since its inception. He has organised multiple road races and assisted in cyclo-cross and road promotions over a long period of time.
A qualified cycle mechanic and coach, Nicholas was part of Team South West, which was a junior rider development squad, and attended numerous races abroad to introduce young riders to continental racing.
He works for a large south west-based college training new engineers and helping companies to address skill deficits. Previously, he has worked in the cycle industry and been involved in the development of Cytech mechanic standards. He has extensive experience and a holistic, panoramic view of cycling in all of its aspects.
