Roddy Barclay has a diverse work history starting in 2008 as an intern analyst at Aegis Defence Services Ltd. In 2009, they joined Control Risks as a Response Analyst, providing analysis and reports on kidnapping trends in Africa and the Middle East. Roddy then became a Senior Consultant, specializing in political risk consultancy and business intelligence across sub-Saharan Africa.
In 2015, Barclay moved to africapractice, where they held various roles including Head of Intelligence and Analysis. Roddy managed a team of twelve political analysts and consultants, overseeing engagements related to political risk, business intelligence, public policy, and stakeholder relationship management. Additionally, they were responsible for developing and delivering intelligence and analysis products and services.
Currently, Barclay is with British International Investment, where they started in 2020 as a Manager before transitioning to the role of Director, Impact Group - Business Integrity & Corporate Governance in 2023.
Throughout their career, Barclay has shown expertise in political risk analysis, business intelligence, team management, and strategy development.
Roddy Barclay has a first-class MSc degree in Environment and Sustainability from Birkbeck, University of London, which they obtained from 2019 to 2021. Prior to that, they have a first-class BA honors degree in French and Spanish from the University of Bristol, which they completed from 2004 to 2008.
