Dr Sam Barrell Cbe

Dr. Sam Barrell CBE serves as the Chief Executive Officer of LifeArc since October 2024 and is a member of the British Land Innovation Advisory Council, contributing to one of the UK's leading real estate investment trusts since May 2023. As a Non-Executive Director at Assura plc and York Health Economics Consortium since May 2021 and June 2020 respectively, Dr. Barrell continues to influence health and economic strategy. Previously, Dr. Barrell held leadership roles as Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer at The Francis Crick Institute until September 2024 and Chief Executive Officer at Taunton & Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, overseeing a £280 million annual budget and a workforce of 4,000. Additional experience includes serving as Chief Clinical Officer for South Devon and Torbay Clinical Commissioning Group, managing a £385 million budget, and engaging with the Institute for Public Policy Research Health Advisory Panel. Dr. Barrell’s medical training culminated in a degree from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School between 1987 and 1993.
