Tom Holder has a diverse work experience spanning over a decade. Tom began their career in 2008 as the Director of Speaking of Research, an organization focused on improving public understanding of biomedical research. In 2009, they joined Teach First as a Maths and Economics Secondary Teacher, motivated by the goal of reducing the impact of parental wealth on a child's academic success. In 2012, Tom became the Campaigns Manager at Understanding Animal Research, where they played a key role in shaping the industry's approach to animal research communication. Tom later served as the Head of External Communications at the same organization. In 2018, Tom joined the British Retail Consortium as the Head of Communications, assuming responsibility for managing a small team, overseeing press, social media, member communication, and speech writing. Tom actively engages in media interviews and acts as a spokesperson on key issues, including Brexit and Covid-19.
