Alex Baumann

Alex Baumann is an experienced engineering manager currently leading Solutions Engineering within Data Sciences and Data Engineering at the Broad Institute since March 2015. Previously, Alex served as Software Developer Lead at Knome Inc from July 2011 to January 2015, where responsibilities included developing the knoSYS software platform for genomic data analysis. Prior experience includes a role as Research Assistant and Software Developer at the Institute for Visualization and Perception Research from September 2004 to May 2011, focusing on the Weave data visualization software. Early career included part-time software development at SensAble Technologies, working on haptic device calibration and surgical simulation applications. Alex holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, earned in 2011.
