Dan Allan is a seasoned professional in the field of computational science and data engineering, currently serving as the Data Engineering Group Lead at Brookhaven National Laboratory since January 2015. In this role, Dan develops innovative scientific software for the NSLS-II synchrotron light source, focusing on the design of experiments and analysis of X-ray imagery. Prior to this, Dan held various positions at Brookhaven, including Associate Computational Scientist and Research Associate. Dan's earlier experience includes a role as a Graduate Researcher at Johns Hopkins University, where the study involved the physics of soft, complex materials and the development of analysis software. Dan's career began at the Corning Museum of Glass, where knowledge was shared through science demonstrations. Dan holds a PhD in Physics from Johns Hopkins University and dual Bachelor’s degrees in Physics and Applied Math, along with a Music degree from the University of Rochester.
