Deputy Division Director And Group Leader – Infrastructure Engineering at Brookhaven National Laboratory

Dirul Nassar has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Dirul began their career as a Field Services Engineer at McGill Air Pressure Corporation, where they performed field startups for industrial capital equipment mechanical and automation systems. Dirul then joined Aero Systems Engineering as a Design Engineer, providing engineering design and analysis for electro-mechanical projects at the NASA Glenn Research Center.

In 2003, Dirul transitioned into the nuclear industry, joining FirstEnergy as a Senior Nuclear Engineer. In this role, they provided engineering design and analysis for nuclear safety-related projects, including design changes and equivalent changes associated with nuclear piping systems, centrifugal pumps, compressors, and steam turbines.

Dirul later became Supervisor of Nuclear Rapid Response Engineering at FirstEnergy, where they supervised and provided technical direction to a staff of ten engineers. Dirul also led complex troubleshooting efforts and provided recommendations for solutions to upper management.

In 2013, Dirul joined Duke Energy Corporation as a Manager of Mechanical/Civil Design Engineering. In this position, they supervised a team of nine engineers and provided technical direction in support of plant activities and refueling outages for a Pressurized Water Reactor Nuclear facility. Dirul also managed the development of complex plant modifications, including instrument air system upgrades and safety-related valve replacements.

Currently, Dirul is working at the Brookhaven National Laboratory as Deputy Division Director and Group Leader - Infrastructure Engineering. In this role, they serve as the Group Leader and work package manager for the Electron-Ion-Collider Project (EIC) Infrastructure Engineering functional area.

Dirul Nassar received a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering from Ohio Northern University in 1999. Dirul then pursued a Master of Science (MS) in Engineering/Industrial Management from Eastern Michigan University between 2006 and 2009. Dirul holds a certification as a Professional Engineer from the State of Ohio.
